VTCA: Centurions run riot

WERRIBEE Centrals have further extended their lead at the top of the Victorian Turf Cricket Association west B1 after a 116-run slaughter of Footscray ANA in a one-day game at Galvin Park on Saturday.

The Centurions posted 9-170 off 40 overs with Luke Simpson standing out with 58 and helping hands from new recruit Blair Hemmingson (28) and Dean Giarrusso (27).

Simpson, who just loves to play at the Shaws Road ground, was undoubtedly the star of the show.

“He’s averaging 140-odd playing at home this season,” Centurions batsman Chris Duffin said.

“He always starts off a little bit slow, but once he moves into his innings, he’s a really good, clean striker of the ball. He’s quick between the wickets and he can play 360-degrees, so he really puts the opposition on the back foot.

“He’s having a fantastic year.”

It was a miserable run chase for ANA, all out for 54.

Centurions opening bowlers Aaron Edrich (3-16) and Sam Crea (3-21) ripped through the top order.

Point Cook is clinging to second spot on the ladder after a heavy defeat to in-form St Andrews at Pennell Reserve.

Seabrook leapt off the bottom of the ladder after a nailbiting two-run win over Barkly Street Uniting at Bruce Comben Reserve.

Meanwhile, Hoppers Crossing has tumbled out of the senior division top four after a 47-run road loss to South Caulfield.
