Young people concerned about the environment gathered at Wyndham Vale at the start of April to discuss action on climate change and how to create a sustainable future.
Wyndham City, in collaboration with the Climate Futures Youth Leaders volunteers, held a Youth Summit to empower and educate young people to take action on climate change.
The summit, attended by 28 young people, was led by the Climate Futures Youth Leaders volunteers and brought together like-minded young people together to work towards creating a sustainable future.
The summit aimed to raise awareness of the impacts of climate change and provide young people with some practical ways they can engage in the conversation.
Speakers on the summit panel included the managing director of Velisha Farms Catherine Velisha, sustainable energy engineer Amber Troung, senior healthy country project officer Greg Robinson and youth representative Dylan Wishart.
The day included a panel discussion, workshops and lunch and afternoon tea.
At the conclusion of the summit, young attendees made several commitments including undertakings to plant more native plants in their backyards, recycle properly and more often and grow more vegetables at home.
The Climate Futures Youth Leaders are a group of young people aged between 16- 26 advocating for the environment and climate change. They provide support in the planning and delivery of environmental and sustainability events, programs, forums and workshops coordinated by council’s
Climate and Resilience, Waste and Youth Services teams.
