A group of young adults from a Wyndham drama group will stage a show penned by local playwright Alaine Beek later this month.
Ms Beek, a Werribee resident who is also an actor, has won several awards for her scripts and performances.
She is also known for running Essence Productions, which stages plays at Werribee Mansion telling the historical story of the Chirnside family.
Earlier this year, Ms Beek started a 10-week dramatic arts youth initiative named Say it Out Loud (SIOL).
Ms Beek said the Wyndham council pilot program aimed to encourage courageous creative thinking through performing arts, among students aged 16 to 22 years old.
Ms Beek said the SIOL participants were due to appear in a 45-minute play she wrote, titled Testing Nothing, at the Wyndham Cultural Centre during September.
The show was cancelled due to lockdown but has been rescheduled for later this month.
“We’re super excited about this play,” Ms Beek said.
“It is set in an English exam and is basically saying the exam process brings out the best in very few of our students.
“What is fantastic, is the stories are based on real student experiences.
“We started working on the play in 2019 with the Werribee Secondary drama group and then the SIOL group continued to develop it with me.”
Testing Nothing will be performed in two shows at the Saltwater Community Centre’s outdoor amphitheatre in Point Cook on Saturday, November 27 at 2pm and 7pm.
