Building a resilient and sustainable Wyndham could lie in the small and youthful hands of the municipalities budding researchers.

The 2022 Young Scientist Competition of Wyndham encourages all year 7-12 students to show off their inventions and special projects that could help build a better Wyndham.

Contest founder Vijisha Venkatram said she has been running the event since 2017.

“This competition is run every year…and I feel we need students to invest their ideas now, more than ever,” she said.

“The community needs them, the world needs them.”

Ms Venkatram said the aim of the project is to encourage and foster a love for science in the municipality, and developing young children’s natural curiosity to explore and problem solve.

Entrants can submit live models, presentations and installations that are creative and innovative.

Students are required to complete an individual application form and submit a 3-minute video recording that includes information that relates to the uniqueness of the project, why there is a need for the invention and how the creation can be used to benefit the Wyndham community.

The final date to enter the contest is August 15.

Shortlisted entries will be notified and participants will then be invited to compete on the final day of the competition on September 3 by displaying their model to a judging panel, who will assess the invention based on their innovation, communication, creation and presentation.
