Westbourne Grammar School’s new prep- grade 2 centre got the regal seal of approval recently when Governor-General Peter Cosgrove paid a visit.
Sir Peter and Lady Lynne Cosgrove opened the new centre, named Winjeel, which caters for 200 students.
It was designed to embrace the Reggio Emilia philosophy, which encourages learning through touching, moving, listening and observing.
The centre is named in honour of the Australian-designed and manufactured CAC-25 training aircraft, which used to fly over the Truganina school grounds from the Point Cook RAAF base.
Winjeel is an Indigenous word meaning ‘young eagle’.
Westbourne principal Meg Hansen said the school was thrilled to have the new centre opened by such distinguished guests.
