Secondary students could get the chance to explore a career with Wyndham council.
The council is calling on Year 10 students to take part in its Bright Futures Work Experience program.
Wyndham mayor Josh Gilligan said offering high school students work experience allowed the next generation of leaders and career-orientated workers to explore the environment of local government.
“Students have the option to choose from a wide range of careers here at council,” Cr Gilligan said.
“They can spend time helping the kindergarten and youth services teams, see how the town planners work, how the city’s human services department operates and even how we manage waste is our growing city – and that’s just a few of the departments calling on our young people to take up a five-day placement.
“Students will take home a greater knowledge of their area of interest and gain confidence and professional connections after their stint with council.”
Last year 108 Year 10 students took part in the Bright Futures Work Experience program. Hoppers Crossing’s Martin Lagamba, who received a Year 10 work experience placement with the council in 2014 and also took part in a university work experience program at the council last year, is now an accounting and reporting finance officer.
