Wyndham tops state for active virus numbers

The number of active coronavirus cases diagnosed in Wyndham residents has increased by 70 cases overnight.

Today, there has been a total of 671 active cases recorded in Wyndham, compared to 601 cases yesterday.

This puts Wyndham back at the top of the state’s municipal active coronavirus list, ahead of the municipality of Brimbank (which has 658 active cases as of today).

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, 58 cases have been linked to Glendale Aged Care Facility in Werribee, and 52 cases have been linked to BaptCare Wyndham Lodge in Werribee.

A single case has also been diagnosed in a staff member at Homestyle Aged Care in Point Cook.

As of today, 184 cases have been linked to Al-Taqwa College in Truganina and 13 cases have been linked to Diamond Valley Pork in Laverton North.

Victoria has recorded 627 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday. The overall total has increased by 579 cases due to 48 cases being reclassified – largely due to duplication.

In Victoria, the total number of active cases has reached 5743.

Seventy-seven of the new cases are linked to known outbreaks or complex cases and 550 are under investigation.

There have been eight new deaths from COVID-19 reported since yesterday. They were two men in their 50s, two men in their 70s, one woman in her 70s and three men in their 80s.

Four of the eight deaths are linked to known outbreaks in aged care facilities. To date, 113 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.

Across the state, 312 people with coronavirus are in hospital, including 34 people in intensive care. 4259 people have recovered from the virus.

Also across Victoria, there 928 active cases relating to outbreaks detected at aged care facilities
