The Salvos are calling on Wyndham residents to open their hearts and wallets this week and give generously to help those in need.

The Wyndham City branch will be out in full force between now and June 2 for the annual Red Shield Appeal, doorknocking local properties and tin rattling at a number of intersections, shopping centres, Bunnings stores and train stations.

The Red Shield Appeal is one of the Salvation Army’s biggest annual fundraisers, with proceeds raised going towards a range of community services, including emergency housing for people in crisis, drug and alcohol rehabilitation and financial counselling.

Wyndham City branch captain Kim Haworth said the Wyndham crew hoped to raise $55,000 through this year’s efforts.

“This financial support enables The Salvation Army to assist the most disadvantaged in our local community and in communities across Australia. We couldn’t do the work we do without this support. When we help those in our community who are doing it tough, the whole community benefits.”

The team is also on the hunt for more volunteers to tin rattle.
