Several Wyndham projects will receive funding through the Pick My Project initiative, including a park in Point Cook’s town centre and a roadside rubbish detection system.
Pick My Project is a state government initiative, offering $30 million in funding for community projects.
Last week, 10 projects based in Wyndham were announced as winners, including the Point Cook Town Centre Community Park, which will receive $200,000.
The Point Cook Action Group (PCAG) submitted the idea of an open space for markets, festivals and community events after running a pop-up park this year.
Ai3DSENSORY will receive $190,000 to develop a roadside detection system using vehicle-borne sensors to detect items such as rubbish, fallen trees and pot holes, to be passed on to councils through a web browser.
Successful Wyndham projects were:
•The Point Cook Football Club will receive $145,000 to install a multimedia scoreboard.
•The Williams Landing Estate Resident’s Association will get $153,000 to stage the Trail of Lights, a lantern festival.
•Alamanda College and Wyndham Harbour Sailing program will receive $133,000.
•DYC Australia will receive $85,000 for music therapy sessions.
•Wyndham council will receive $35,000 to upgrade the Saltwater dog park in Point Cook.
•Cambridge Primary School will receive $35,000 for a sensory and sustainable garden.
•An on-demand public transport bus pilot, submitted by WynBus and PCAG, will receive $31,500.
•An undercover all-weather seating and exercise facility will be installed at the Western Athletics track for $31,148.
Wyndham mayor Peter Maynard (PETER MAYNARD) said the whole community would benefit from the projects.
“I’d like to acknowledge the passion and initiative of individuals and groups from across the city in coming up with innovative project ideas that will help make Wyndham an even better place to live,” Cr Maynard said.
