Improved summer outdoors fun in the heart of Werribee is the sunny prospect as work progresses on Wyndham Park.
With the redevelopment on track for completion in November, mayor Mia Shaw says the $13 million project will transform the
park into a buzzing space for the entire community.
“This $13 million Wyndham council project will see the park become home to a large space to host events, play spaces, seating, rest areas, barbecues, shelters, and drinking fountains,” Cr Shaw said.
The works will revitalise the under-used space between the Werribee Bicentennial Bridge, off Comben Drive, and the park’s entrance at Werribee Street.
Included will be:
•A major events lawn just past the Wedge Street bridge for up to 5000 people for markets, festivals, informal ball games and other social sports.
•A playground featuring a 12-metre play tower, giant slide, spinning equipment, double flying fox, adventure rope course and swings.
•A children’s nature play space with a magical forest theme near the Werribee Bicentennial Bridge, designed to cater for children with autism.
•Picnic facilities, including barbecues, tables, chairs and shade structures.
•A nature trail and fitness loop.
•Lighting and toilets.
“Cycling and walking paths will also be improved as part of this project and lighting will be increased and upgraded to improve perceptions of safety,” Cr Shaw said.
“August will be a busy month for this project, with the adventure play tower being installed at the park. I have no doubt that this will be one of the most popular attractions of the new and improved Wyndham Park.
“In November, we’re looking forward to the artwork being installed on site … this will be a key feature of the park, paying tribute to the local area.
“We are opening up views of the park so the residents and visitors can make the most out of this beautiful asset, increasing visitation is a part of our mission to make the Werribee City Centre more vibrant.”
The state government has chipped in
$3.2 million towards the project, with the rest coming from Wyndham council.
