Wyndham is a twin city haven

Wyndham’s baby boom has its share of double delights, with 123 sets of twins having been born at Mercy Werribee Hospital in the past five years.

Werribee Mercy Hospital data shows 26 sets of twins have been born since January.

There were 23 sets of twins born in 2018.

Twins Myka and Makai were born at the hospital last month to parents Mirasol and Paul Lequin.

Myka arrived first weighing 2.4 kilograms and brother Makai followed three minutes later weighing 2.2 kilograms.

The pair arrived in time for National Twins Day last week.

The hospital’s maternity services director, Jacqui Van Dam, said earlier this year the maternal health unit delivered about 3900 babies in 2018.

“We now have nine birthing suites and 32 post-natal rooms,” she said.

“The very evident characteristic is that these facilities are always full and our staff are constantly busy.”

Dr Van Dam said the Wyndham municipality was affordable for young couples and was close to the main city centres.

Wyndham’s population was 217,122 in 2016, according to the Census. The municipality’s population is being tipped to top 480,000 by 2041.
