Wyndham gets in on class act

Wyndham families are speaking up and having their say about three new schools coming to the region.

The Victorian Schools Building Authority has started consultation on the design of three new Wyndham schools – Sanctuary Lakes P-9, Point Cook South Senior Secondary 10-12 and Truganina East P-9 – that received funding in the 2017-18 state budget.

Locations for the schools have yet to be determined.

The government is in the final stages of acquiring a site for the new Truganina East P-9 school, while in May, a spokeswoman for Altona MP Jill Hennessy said the government was “facing challenges” in acquiring land for the new Sanctuary Lakes school.

The state government has also allocated money in its 2017-18 budget to acquire land for a new P-6 school in Wyndham South, with a site still to be selected.

The VSBA has held community workshops in recent weeks and has introduced an online survey and online comment board to get feedback from locals.

An education department spokesman said the government had spoken to hundreds of local families and had had nearly 5000 hits on its “engage” website.

“We’re engaging with the community to ensure local families can have their say on the education approach and design of the new local schools we are delivering in the Wyndham area,” the spokesman said.

“The feedback we are receiving from the Wyndham community will be collated and analysed so it can help shape the design and education framework of these exciting new school projects.”

Residents have until Sunday, July 2, to have their say. Go to www.engage.vic.gov.au/schoolbuildings for more information.
