Wyndham families terrorised in home burglaries

A Tarneit family has told of their terror when four males broke into their Caraleena Way home at the weekend.

Pritpal Singh had been asleep in his bedroom with his wife and 17-month-old son when he woke to the sound of breaking glass just before 6am on Sunday.

When Mr Singh went to investigate, he found four males ransacking his kitchen.

Mr Singh told Seven News one of the intruders had armed themselves with a meat cleaver and demanded money and car keys.

Mr Singh said he ran back into his bedroom, where he and his wife threw their weight against the door to prevent the intruders gaining access.

“You think, ‘What’s your priority now? To save your family, or go and confront them’.”

At least one of the intruders unsuccessfully tried to kick their way into the bedroom, resulting in a large hole in the bedroom door.

Mr Singh said the intruders stole wallets and jewellery from the dining room before taking two sets of car keys.

They stole a black Holden Commodore owned by his friend, Jasvir Singh, who was spending the night in the guest bedroom.

The other set of car keys belonged to Mr Singh’s white Toyota, which was parked in the home garage.

It is believed the intruders gained entrance to the property by breaking a rear glass sliding door.

Meanwhile, a Williams Landing mother of four relayed how two intruders held her at knife-point while her children slept nearby in a separate aggravated home burglary the same morning.

Police said two males broke into the De Havilland Drive property in Williams Landing just after 5am after using bricks to smash through a glass sliding door.

The males armed themselves with a knife and demanded the woman’s car keys before driving off in her red Ford Festiva.

“I did not scream because I believe if I’m screaming, they will become more aggressive,” the woman, who did not wish to be named, told Seven News.

“It was really a terrifying situation.”

North Metro Regional Crime Squad investigators charged six teenagers on Monday following the two aggravated burglaries and an attempted carjacking in Point Cook about 5am the same day.

A 15-year-old Tarneit boy was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, driving unlicensed and assaulting police.

Two 14-year-old boys, from South Yarra and Frankston, and a 16-year-old boy from North Fitzroy have been charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

Police have also charged a 14-year-old boy from Burnside and a 15-year-old boy from Kings Park with aggravated burglary and theft of a motor vehicle.

The six appeared at court on Monday afternoon and have been remanded to appear at a Children’s Court at a later date.

Police have also arrested a 16-year-old boy from Tarneit and a 15-year-old boy from Carlton, but no charges had been laid at the time Star Weekly went to print.

A Victoria Police spokesman said police could not comment on whether or not the incidents had any links to the Apex gang.
