Wyndham council welcomes funding

Wyndham council has thanked the state government for the funding of schools, roads and emergency services in the municipality that was announced in the budget on May 3.

Grants have been allocated to fund six new schools and Mayor Peter Maynard said the funding is necessary in keeping up with the ongoing population boom in the area.

“We’re particularly pleased to see that of the 13 new schools allocated funding for

construction in Victoria, six are here in Wyndham,” Cr Maynard said.

“This is most definitely welcome news, and we thank the State Government for their investment. We are pleased to see funding for our existing schools too.”

Tarneit MP Sarah Connolly said the new schools will give local kids great classrooms and creative spaces.

“Tarneit is growing and we’re not wasting a single minute in building local schools for local kids. I’m proud to deliver new schools in Truganina and Tarneit that will give our kids the opportunity to reach their full potential,” Ms Connolly said.

Werribee Mercy Hospital will receive a share of $236 million dedicated to the expansion of their emergency department.

“We know this hospital does an outstanding job of servicing our residents – but as our community grows – so too does the pressure on the Mercy,” Cr Maynard said.

“This investment will help to alleviate some of that pressure.”

Werribee MP Tim Pallas said the investment into emergency departments will ensure Victorians get the best care, close to home.

“Our healthcare workers have worked incredibly hard to keep us safe and healthy these last few years. With this Budget, we’re backing in their hard work, investing in the extra pair of helping hands they need to keep looking after Victorians and their families,” Mr Pallas said.

Cr Maynard said Wyndham is one of the fastest growing cities in the state, and needs continued investment to make the municipality a more liveable city.

“This funding, right across the board, is extremely welcome and was urgently needed to meet demand in our fast-growing suburbs,” Cr Maynard said.
