Four Wyndham local laws will be consolidated in a bid to make regulations easier for residents to understand.
The consolidated law will be known as a ‘community amenity local law’, and will cover health and environment issues, use of council roads, rules governing land and buildings, and policies for managing libraries and building sites.
The consolidation of local laws was approved by councillors at a meeting on July 27 and the council is now seeking public feedback on its change.
Cr Adele Hegedich said the council wanted to ensure local laws were clearer and better able to address known issues in Wyndham.
“In most cases, the effect of the changes will be minor,” she said.
“However, they will address ongoing issues we are facing in relation to the management of building sites, damage to council gutters, footpaths and driveways, and damage to nature strips and street trees.
“The readability of the local law will also be improved to ensure definitions are clear and easy to understand.”
Local laws are used by councils to protect public health and safety, address specific community needs and expectations, and preserve neighbourhood services and amenities.
Submissions on Wyndham’s draft local law are due by September 3 at www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/locallawreview
A special council meeting at 7pm on September 8 will consider submissions.
