Wyndham companies will mix business with pleasure when the city’s newest advocacy group kicks off over drinks this week.

Wyndham Business and Tourism Association will host its official launch party on Thursday and is keen to get more businesses on board.

The association is a merger of the former Wyndham Chamber of Commerce and Wyndham Tourism Association.

It will run sub-committees – including advocacy, events and promotions, and membership services – and advocate for change on relevant issues.

The new group will also create a calendar of events to entice locals and tourists to spend more time in Wyndham.

Association president and Park Hotel co-owner Nick Christou said further sub-committees would be created as issues and concerns were identified.

“We want to work with local authorities, the council and police to get an understanding of what’s going on in the area and provide valuable input from a business owners’ perspective,” Mr Christou said.

“We want to represent businesses in Wyndham and make sure our voices are heard. We want to create events and promote everything Wyndham has to offer. We want people to go out locally and people from other areas to visit.”
