Wyndham artists have eye on the prize

Artists and creators are being urged to showcase their works for one of Wyndham’s top prizes.
Entries for Wyndham Art Prize are now open, with $12,000 up for grabs for the winner.
Now in its sixth year, the competition attracts entries from some of Australia’s best artists.
Arts and heritage portfolio holder Tony Hooper said the art prize offered established and emerging artists the opportunity to see their work alongside highly esteemed artists all vying for the big prize.
“I encourage all artists keen to promote their work to enter the prestigious competition,” Cr Hooper said.
“Works can include paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, new media, photography and film.
“Visitors to the exhibition will be treated to a variety of works by talented artists from across the country and will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite piece with the People’s Choice Award.”
The cash prize for the People’s Choice Award is $2,500 and a $5,000 prize is on offer for the Local Emerging Artist Prize.
This year’s judges include Louise Tegart, from the Art Gallery of Ballarat, CRAFT Victoria’s Chloe Powell, and the National Gallery of Victoria’s Myles Russell-Cook.
Entries close February 28.
