Melbourne artist Arraya Loynd’s work ‘Dissociated’, has taken out the 2023 Wyndham Art Prize.
An archival pigment print on cotton rag paper, Loynds’s winning entry is from her ‘Pain Always Finds The Surface’ series and was selected by the judging panel for the prize’s $15,000 top award.
Point Cook’s Nandita Nadkarni won the Local Emerging Art Prize for her work ‘Crafted Clay Odyssey’, which explores the interplay between nature and human ingenuity and was inspired by the Spotswood Pumping Station.
As part of her prize, which is awarded to a local artist practicing for five years or less, Nadkarni’s work has been acquired for $5000 and will now be part of the Wyndham City Visual Art collection.
The winners were announced at an event on Wednesday August 16 which doubled as the opening night of the annual Wyndham Art Prize exhibition.
“It’s Wyndham Art Gallery’s annual gala event and as expected it was an exciting and thrilling exhibition opening,” said Wyndham mayor Susan McIntyre.
“It is wonderful to have so many fabulous artworks on display.
Projects such as this encourage creativity and artistic expression and strengthen community,” Cr McIntyre said.
The exhibition displays 71 artworks selected from more than 500 entries from artists across Australia.
The artworks are on display at the Wyndham Art Gallery until September 22 and attendees can vote on the $2500 People’s Choice Award.
Entry to the gallery is free.
