Two Wyndham events and one public art installation have received national recognition for their creativity and celebration of culture.
Lighting festival LIT, the Firefly Night Market in Tarneit and public art commission Mooroop Yarkeen and have all been nominated in the National Awards for Local Government 2024.
All three events are finalists in the creativity and culture category of the awards which will be determined by public vote.
Wyndham mayor Jennie Barrera said she was proud to see Firefly Night
Market, Mooroop Yarkeen and LIT recognised as finalists in the awards.
“It’s an incredible achievement and testament to the hard work and commitment of
Council staff and the many artists, makers, community groups, performers and
partners involved,” said Cr Barrera who urged Wyndham residents to support the three finalists in the hope that one of them may come out on top.
“The national award winners will now be determined by public vote and I encourage
everyone to head online and cast your vote by 26 April. This is our chance to shine a
spotlight on Wyndham and the incredible creativity, culture and diversity of our city.
Voting is easy with just a click of a button; the hard part will be deciding which
project to vote for, as you can only vote once.”
All three finalists were supported by Wyndham council.
LIT, which only recently finished its third edition in Wyndham Park, attracted more than 75,000 visitors during March.
The Firefly Night Market was held in June last year as part of the Tarneit Suburban Revitalisation Program.
And Mooroop Yarkeen by Tommy Day / Jirri Jirri is a giant mural which dominates the Werribee skyline from the side of the Hunter Building at 22 Synnot Street.
