A Point Cook business is in the running to be named best family entertainment centre in the world.

Wyncity Bowl and Entertainment complex is one of three businesses globally – excluding the US – vying for the ‘best family entertainment centre worldwide’ award, the winner to be announced at an International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions trade show in Orlando, Florida, next month.

Wyncity is up against Turkey’s Kidzania and New Zealand’s Rainbow’s End attractions.

Managing director Edi De Pellegrin, who runs the Point Cook business with her sisters, Doriana Porto, Tania De Grandis and Julianne Morrow, said the family was thrilled to be considered among the world’s best.

“I never thought we’d have the opportunity to get to the finals and the fact we have is a testament to just how hard we work here,” Ms De Pellegrin said.

Her parents opened Wyncity as a bowling centre in Werribee in the mid-1980s.

When the four sisters took over, they introduced a restaurant, bumper cars and other attractions, and two years ago they moved to a bigger, purpose-built Point Cook location, which also offers laser tag, mini-golf and arcade games.

Ms De Pellegrin said the family was looking at taking over an existing bowling centre in the Latrobe Valley and turning it into another family entertainment centre.

“We’d like to open a number of them across Victoria over the next five years – some larger, some smaller, depending on the town and what we can fit in,” she said.
