Wrestlers DCT and Slade “The Mercenary” Mercer will shake, rattle and roll the Italian Sports Club of Werribee next month.

The two men will take to the ring for a live pro wrestling event titled Aftershock!, presented by Showdown Wrestling.

Slade said he became a wrestling fan at age eight and would watch the sport on television at night – something which his parents did not encourage, but his grandmother did. At the age of 17, he started training as a wrestler.

“I enjoy being able to take people out of their own worlds for an evening – if you come along and check your disbelief at the door, you can have a great night,” he said.

“Being there in person, only a few inches from the action, is completely different to watching wrestling on TV.”

His opponent DCT – real name David – said he started wrestling at 22 years old.

“My signature move is kneeing people in the face, which Slade can look forward to next month in Werribee,” he said.

“I expect a lot of people to boo me because I’m seen as something of a fire-breathing villain, I’m looking forward to beating up Slade.”

Referee Sam Addison said he enjoyed seeing children in the audience react to wrestlers, who they often look up to as “superheroes”.

The doors at Aftershock! will open at 6.30pm for a 7.30pm show on Saturday, July 13. Tickets: adults $20, under-16s $15. Visit www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=495704 to book.
