For Julie Tran, teaching an annual cupcake decorating workshop at the Iramoo Community Centre is always a sweet occasion.
Mrs Tran, a cake, cupcake and macaroon maker, runs a business named Sweets In Bloom from her Tarneit home.
For the past five years, Mrs Tran has taught a cupcake decorating session at the Wyndham Vale community centre during Neighbourhood House Week.
During the COVID pandemic last year, instead of taking the workshop in-person, Mrs Tran filmed an instructional video which the community centre posted online.
Mrs Tran said she was looking forward to once again taking the workshop in person, on Wednesday, May 12 from 10am-noon.
“What I enjoy most about the workshop [is] I get to talk to people – usually baking cakes, it’s a very solitary pastime,” she said.
Mrs Tran said she worked as a registered psychiatrist for nine years, but became a full-time cake maker in 2018 after she developed a love of baking treats for her son’s birthdays.
Mrs Tran said she enjoyed engaging with customers on social media, putting up videos of her baking “mistakes”.
“I always post my fails and my customers seem to love that,” Mrs Tran said.
To attend the workshop, contact 8742 3688 or admin@iramoocc.com.au. Cost: $5.
