An action plan to rejuvenate one of Wyndham’s oldest suburbs was adopted by council at its meeting on Tuesday night.

The Woodville Place Plan includes 11 key recommendations to enhance the suburb in Hoppers Crossing, including safer roads and public spaces, new businesses such as cafes and restaurants and improved community spaces and family events.

Wyndham mayor Jennie Barrera welcomed the outcome of the June 25 meeting, saying the plan to improve Woodville would be centered on its Neighbourhood Activity Centre (NAC).

“The Woodville Neighbourhood Activity Centre is one of the oldest in Wyndham. It currently comprises a local shopping centre, two schools, open spaces, recreation facilities and a kindergarten,” Cr Barrera said.

“The Woodville of the future will have improved play spaces, additional trees to create

more of a ‘wooded’ village’ and encourage natural waterways to attract native wildlife

and improved cycling paths with better lighting along the paths and safer roads. This plan integrates placemaking, urban design and economic development in a way

that encourages people to enjoy living in Woodville, with everything they need within 20-

minutes.”

The Woodville Place Place follows consultation with local residents last year which found they wanted safer roads and public spaces, new businesses and improved community spaces and family events.

Cr Barrera said this feedback been included in the key actions in the plan, including improvements to pedestrian safety, drainage, beautification works, lighting and new facilities and

exploring future community activations and events.

“We thank everyone for participating in the consultations and helping to shape a more

vibrant future for Woodville,” she said.

“Council will continue to work with the community, the schools, and the shopping centre

to initiate and help organise events and activities that foster a sense of community.
