Woman dies in Truganina house fire

A 27-year-old woman has died in a Truganina house fire and is being treated as suspicious by police.

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire at a residential property on Dover Street about 2.30am on Thursday, January 16.

According to police, a 27-year-old Hoppers Crossing woman, whose family owned the three-story townhouse that was destroyed, died at the scene.

Detectives from the arson and explosives squad are investigating and the fire is being treated as suspicious.

Police believe that shortly after 2am two people got out of a dark coloured vehicle parked outside the address and an explosion occurred shortly after.

According to police, the woman called 000 and informed emergency services that the house was alight.

Detectives are treating the fire as a targeted attack, however police have not been able to establish any reason why the woman or her family would be targeted in this way and said they are considering the possibility of mistaken identity.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
