Wyndham’s youngest book-lovers can’t get enough of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.

The popular American books by Jeff Kinney are the most-borrowed items from Wyndham’s public libraries this year.

In all, more than 580,000 books, DVDs, magazines and comic books have been borrowed from the five libraries since January.

Japanese Manga comics and television series are also among the most popular items loaned by the city’s libraries.

Council employment, education and training portfolio-holder Heather Marcus said the great variety of resources at Wyndham’s libraries were appealing to people of all ages.

“It’s great to see thousands of people enjoying the wonderful libraries Wyndham has on offer, borrowing everything from comic books to their favourite TV series,” Cr Marcus said.

“Almost 300,000 people have visited one of Wyndham’s libraries to borrow an item so far this year – an increase of 12 per cent over the same period last year.

“eBooks and eAudiobooks have also been extremely popular, with the number of loans increasing 30 per cent when compared to last year.”

She said kids’ fiction was one of the most popular categories at Wyndham libraries.

“The fact that children in Wyndham are continuing to receive joy from books and that our libraries are still able to open their minds to different worlds is a wonderful thing to see,” she said.
