Williams Landing shopping centre to expand

Williams Landing shopping centre is to get a $6.5 million extension with construction expected to start in coming months.

The expanded shopping centre, owned by Cedar Woods Properties, will feature an additional 1200 square metres of ground-floor retail space and a 106-place childcare centre.

The Williams Landing centre is currently home to 22 retailers, including a Woolworths store.

Cedar Woods state manager Nathan Blackburne said the upgrade would help drive the company’s vision of helping create a vibrant town.

“The addition of a childcare facility will cater to young families,” he said.

“Leasing opportunities for a gym and restaurant tenancies are planned to provide Williams Landing with businesses that will be beneficial to residents.”

The childcare facility will be managed by Future Kids, which also operates centres in Wyndham Vale, Point Cook and Tarneit. Mr Blackburne said the expansion was part of the company’s plan to create an “employment cluster” at Williams Landing, as reported in last week’s Star Weekly.

The “cluster” will also feature 5000 square metres of office space and a 50-room hotel.

The Williams Landing centre joins others in Wyndham undergoing upgrades. Pacific Werribee is in the final stage of a massive $370 million redevelopment.

The Hoppers Crossing shopping centre, also owned by the Pacific Werribee group, is in the middle of a $17 million upgrade.

News of the Williams Landing centre’s upgrade coincides with Woolworths’ announcement last week of plans to pull the plug on its troubled Masters home improvement stores.

Cedar Woods sold the Masters property in Williams Landing to a private investor in June last year.

It was sold with a 20-year lease, guaranteed by Woolworths.
