One man has died, and another man has been injured, in a drive-by shooting in Ravenhall at the weekend.

Police have been told a number of shots were fired from a moving vehicle outside a pool hall in Westwood Drive around midnight.

One man, who was shot in the upper body, was driven to hospital by friends and family. The man, a 33 year-old father-of-five from Deer Park, later died.

Emergency services also attended the scene and found a 24-year-old Williams Landing man who had been shot in the thigh.

He was taken to hospital and discharged on Sunday.

The Age newspaper is reporting that police do not yet know if the shooters were known to either of the victims, or whether the deceased man was the intended target of the drive-by shooting.

Detective Sergeant Simon Quinnell said “there’s nothing to suggest if that was the case”.

“We’ve looked into the deceased’s criminal background – very little is there, and certainly nothing to suggest anything that he has been involved in,” he said.
