Police veterans reunited for their 37th annual luncheon at Hoppers Crossing to share stories from their days serving in the west.
Former superintendent Bill Bloomcamp, 91, was among 120 police who worked across the western districts that attended the recent Annual Retired Police Luncheon.
Event committee member Gary Jose, also a former superintendent before retiring 30 years ago, said the event was an opportunity to reflect on the old times and stay connected.
“We all just to get together and reminisce and it’s a good way for us to stay in touch,” Mr Jose said.
“When I was a detective I served in Footscray, Sunshine and Werribee and Altona prior to becoming a Superintendent.
“Some of the people at the lunch are those I worked with, others I met through the lunches.
“We talk about the old times …The first lunch was held at the Yarraville Club in October 1983 as a result of a meeting convened by Lawrie Carn who was the chief inspector at Yarraville.
“For years the master of ceremonies was Doc McCartney who passed away in 2012.
“Doc was famous at the lunch for his jokes and he will be talked about for years to come.”
