Police have arrested a man following an armed robbery in Werribee on Monday, September 29.
The man, brandishing an axe, entered the second-hand-dealers store on Station Place at about 2.15pm where he threatened staff.
He smashed several glass display cabinets before stealing a large quantity of jewellery and fleeing in a vehicle.
The man was allegedly spotted by police in the Nissan Navara in Kite Court, Werribee at about 3.20pm where he crashed into a residential fence while attempting to flee from officers.
Police pursued the Nissan until the car was immobilised near Skeleton Creek and Old Geelong Road, Hoppers Crossing just before 3.45pm.
The 22-year-old man, with no fixed address, was arrested inside the vehicle.
He will be interviewed by detectives.
Four staff members inside the store at the time were not physically injured.
Police continue to investigate if the Nissan was stolen.
