The Werribee South Boat Ramp is set to undergo an upgrade to help make launching boats quicker and easier, the state government today announced.
The current six-lane boat ramp services boaters living in the west, and provides access to Port Phillip, Corio Bay and Werribee River, and the upgrades are hoped to improve the facility’s functionality, as well as reduce congestion that can impact
boaters, during peak holiday periods.
“We know how much locals enjoy using the Werribee South boat ramp and getting out on the water – so this
upgrade will go a long way in ensuring it remains a community asset for years to come,” Werribee MP Tim Pallas said.
Consultation on the ramp upgrade was taken last year, which contributed to a final concept plan now being converted into construction-ready designs.
The plans feature an extra boat ramp lane to help improve the efficiency of launching boats, as well as an additional pontoon and realignment of existing structures.
Future all-abilities access, extended boat preparation and tie-down areas are also included in the plans, and an additional entry lane to reduce queuing onto Beach Road and existing overflow parking to the west of the ramp will also be retained.
Fishing and Boating minister Sonya Kilkenny said the Werribee South boat ramp is one of Melbourne’s busiest, and the upgrades are necessary to ensure the ramp can be used by boaters well into the future.
“With a new ramp lane and pontoon complemented by boat preparation space and an additional entry lane, there’ll
be less queueing and more capacity at the ramp for boaters hitting the water,” she said.
