Werribee skate park on a roll

Werribee MP Tim Pallas has announced his intention to go roller skating at a new skate park to be built in Werribee.

On Friday, Mr Pallas and representatives from Wyndham council gathered at the Loyola Road Park to announce funding to build the skate park.

The council will put $186,000 towards the park, while the state government will contribute $100,000 through Sport and Recreation Victoria.

Mr Pallas said that once completed, the skate park would include equipment suitable for beginner and intermediate skaters, a water fountain and seating.

He said Werribee was in desperate need for safe and purpose-built facilities for skaters and BMX riders to showcase their talents.

Mr Pallas also reminisced about roller skating during his youth and said he would be keen to strap on his skates again, once the new Werribee park is built.

“I look forward to honing my skills here,” he said.

Wyndham mayor Peter Maynard said that while he was keen to see the skate park constructed, he didn’t think he would join Mr Pallas in roller skating there.

Cr Maynard said the skate park was being constructed in response to feedback from the community received during development of the council’s Skate BMX and Bike Facility Strategy.

He said that children from the area had asked for an easily accessible skate park.

“Loyola Reserve in Werribee is the preferred location for this new skate park, and we will be asking for community feedback during its design and development,” he said.
