Werribee shop destroyed in arson attack

Two people are on the run after fleeing the scene of an arson attack which destroyed a Werribee barbershop this morning.

Emergency services responded to reports that vehicle that had rammed into shops in Derwent Rd, Werribee just after 1.30am on Monday, June 17.

A further call from the shop owner stated the premise had also been fire bombed and the offenders had fled the scene.

The single story shop was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus worked to isolate the fire before it could spread to the adjoining shop and residence and it was declared under control by 2.20am.

The occupants of the residence had already evacuated the building safely.

Police are currently investigating the fire and whether it is linked to other recent arson attacks on shops in Wyndham and other areas of Melbourne.
