Fourteen years after a fire at Werribee Secondary College, the school’s rebuild is finally complete.
The school is finishing off the year on a high, after stage three work – including new classrooms, co-ordinator offices, science lab, maths facilities and a commerce and humanities hub – was completed and ready to use at the beginning of term four.
The $7 million project was the third part of a school rebuild that began in 2004 following a fire at the Duncans Road campus.
Principal Steve Butyn said he was very proud of what had been achieved through the rebuild, which he said would provide students with state-of-the-art facilities.
“They’re [the students] fine young people who deserve the very best,” he said.
Also on the way is a new school auditorium, a collaboration between the state government, Wyndham council and Wyndham Theatre Company.
Mr Butyn said construction was expected to start next year and that once complete, the auditorium would be the home of the Wyndham Theatre Company.
Touring the school last week, Werribee MP Tim Pallas said it was great to see the redevelopment coming to fruition.
“I get more and more impressed with this school every time I visit it,” he said.
