The federal government has announced it will provide $85,000 to the Werribee River Association as part of the Empowering Youth Project.
This grant will aim to assist the Werribee River Association in supporting young people aged 13-17 to reconnect with their community, reduce social isolation, provide training in land management and conversation, and create linkages to career pathways within the environmental sector.
The grant round was open to community organisations that work to improve the social and economic participation of disadvantaged people in the community.
Among the target groups were young people aged 12-18 who were at risk of social exclusion, people with disabilities and mental health conditions, women at risk of marginalisation and those struggling to gain or maintain employment.
Social Services MinisterAmanda Rishworth discussed the decision.
“To build stronger and more resilient communities we need to invest where there is the most need and the opportunity to make the biggest difference to the future of community members,”she said.
