Racing Victoria (RV) has announced that the meeting scheduled at Werribee Racecourse on Friday 9 January has been deferred to Monday 12 January due to forecast hot weather.
The decision has been made in the interests of horse and participant welfare with the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) predicting temperatures to reach 41 degrees in Werribee on Friday afternoon.
Opportunities to transfer the meeting to other dates were explored, with Monday emerging as the most appropriate option given no meeting was scheduled in Victoria that day.
Acceptances for the Picklebet Park Werribee meeting have been deferred 48 hours and will now be taken at 9am on Friday 9 January. All race distances will remain the same.
RV’s Procedure for Racing in Hot Weather Policy is enacted at meetings where hot weather is predicted to ensure the health and wellbeing of horses and participants.
