Tunes spanning three decades will be played in a tribute this month to the Werribee Concert Band’s 30th year on stage.

The 35-member band, joined by the Laverton Community Choir and Shelly Rodriguez from Opera Victoria, will mark its milestone in a special concert at the Wyndham Cultural Centre at the end of this month.

Vice-president David Garrick says the band will play songs that have been covered over the past three decades as part of their set, opening with Grandfather’s Clock – one of the first pieces played by the band after its launch 30 years ago.

“We’ve chosen music that has a significance to different eras and different parts of the group,” he said.

The band performs regularly at events such as Christmas carols and Moomba and has members from across the western suburbs, the youngest aged 16 while the oldest is in his 80s.

And while the concert band is 30 years young, Wyndham’s inheritance of public bands began almost a century ago, in the 1920s, with the Werribee Brass Band, which became the Werribee Municipal Band and, finally, its present iteration, the Werribee Concert Band.

The band’s 30th birthday concert will be at the Wyndham Cultural Centre from 7pm on July 30.

Tickets are $10 for children, $15 for concession and $20 for adult.
