The countdown to Christmas is officially on starting with the lighting of the tree in Werribee’s Station Place.
Wyndham council’s Werribee Lights Up for Christmas event last Friday marked the beginning of community celebrations for the festive season.
Tourism and major events portfolio holder John Gibbons said the evening’s free activities, including a visit from Santa and his elves, children’s crafts, ginger bread making, and entertainment.
Cr Gibbons said it was an opportunity for the community to celebrate the lighting of the six-metre-tall Christmas tree and spend time together before the busy Christmas season began.
The Werribee Lights Up event also marked the launch of Red Centre – this year’s major public art extravaganza in and around the Cultural Centre.
Residents are encouraged to explore their neighbourhood this festive season and wander across to Wedge Street Piazza and see the display of wooden Christmas trees which were decorated by 10 local primary schools.
