Werribee and Watton street residents urged to evacuate

The evacuate immediately warning for residents along the Werribee River has been downgraded by VicEmergency to watch and act.

“The previous message to evacuate Watton Street and Werribee Street has been downgraded to a “watch and act” as the river has reached its peak,” A Wyndham City spokesperson said.

“The Relief Centre at the civic centre is being stood down and we have cancelled the evacuation.”

Wyndham council also released a list of closed roads in the municipality:

• Browns Road (closed at Alfred Road and Wests Road)

• Mt Cottrell Road (closed at Dohertys Road and Boundary Road)

• Doherty Road (closed at Derrimut Road and Tarneit Road)

• Leaks Road (Sewells Road to Shanahans Road)

The following areas are experiencing minor flooding:

• Bulban Road

• All Low lying foot path areas (shared paths) around water ways, including Presidents Park and Chirnside Park

Vic Emergency has issued an evacuate immediately warning for residents living near Werribee and Watton streets along the Werribee River.

Floodwaters are rapidly rising, and Vic Emergency said flooding is expected to impact this location from 11.30am.

What you should do:

Travel to a safe location. Options include:

A relief centre has been opened at Wyndham Civic Centre, Princes Highway, Werribee.

Family or friends’ homes located in a safe location, away from flooding.

The safest evacuation route is by foot.

When you leave, remember to take your pets, mobile phone and medications, and no not enter floodwater.
