Weight lost, Troy tries to help others

In his early years, Troy Willems was overweight, unhealthy, depressed and, at times, suicidal.

“From the ages of 10-29, I was fat,” the Werribee resident said. “[Then I said] I have a young family, what type of role model am I? Enough is enough, things need to change.”

Mr Willems (pictured) says he tried “nearly every fad diet” in his attempt to lose weight but continuously failed.

“Unfortunately, these crazy and unsustainable diets led to failure after failure and the downward spiral continued where I ended up fatter and fatter after every attempt to lose the weight,” he said.

But he soldiered on and managed to shed 35 kilograms. “I was so proud of myself for shedding the weight that I had only dreamed about for the previous two decades. I was active and finally enjoying quality time with my family.”

But Mr Willems wasn’t done with his lifestyle change. He decided to go back to school to study fitness and personal training, and then quit his office job.

He now works in health and fitness, and will host a free fat-loss seminar next week where he hopes to change the lives of others.

“My goal is to help 200 overweight Wyndham residents in 2017,” he said. “I’ll explain how and why most people get it wrong when they undertake a new diet and what changes they can make to experience long-term results.”

The free event will be held at St Thomas Church hall from 7.30pm.
