Lights, camera … action! A group of Samoans based in Werribee has launched its own weekly television show celebrating all things Pacific Islander.
The program keeps the Melbourne Pacific Islander community informed on what’s happening, and young people are heavily involved in its production.
Program organiser Rosie Lam Slade Nafoi says the show already involves young people who have to be older than 15, and there are plans to bring in younger participants as the show progresses.
The Samoan group also runs dance classes and a Pacific Islander homework club out of its Werribee headquarters.
“It’s about trying to get the youth together and keep them busy, to keep them out of trouble,” Rosie said.
“We’re also promoting further education.
“We find that our children stop at year 12 when it’s too difficult to move forward.
“We want to help them move forward with their education.”
TV Samoa Melbourne airs on Channel 31, Thursdays from 3pm.
