Cowie’s Hill Water Tower in Tarneit has been transformed from drab to decorated, as colourful designs from a lighting installation funded by the state government and Wyndham council will be displayed on the tower.
Located at the corner of Annaliese Street and Pauline Way, the $160,000 upgrades to the tower were launched by Tarneit MP Sarah Connolly and Wyndham mayor Peter Maynard on August 12.
“In this instance we’ve taken a cherished landmark and given it new life, making it a creative centrepiece in the northern end of the City that can be seen across Tarneit,” Ms Connolly said.
Cr Maynard said the water tower would display a unique moving art piece created specifically for the water tower.
“We were pleased with the community consultation that supported the project, there were a variety of suggestions for the projections such as showcasing indigenous creation stories and days of public significance,” he said.
This project was delivered in partnership with the Tarneit Revitalisation Board, Greater Western Water and Melbourne Water with $150,000 in funding from the state government and $10,000 contributed by council.
The Tarneit Revitalisation Program assists in the development of projects to create vibrant public spaces in the suburb.
Cr Marcel Mahfoud said it was the second water tower in the municipality to be converted into an “imaginative space”.
“The lighting of Cowie’s Hill Water Tower is an imaginative placemaking and urban renewal project that will
inspire our residents, and help our community take an active role in shaping our shared spaces,” he said.
