A failure to supply information to the Environment Protection Authority has cost a Truganina transport company nearly $10,000.

The EPA issued a fine $9,615 the Kaduki Group Pty Ltd after it failed to provide information as part of an investigation into the alleged abandonment of industrial waste in shipping containers at a container yard in Truganina.

The company had been issued an Information Gathering Notice by the EPA which can order a company or an individual to provide information to assess compliance under the Environment Protection Act 2017.

“Some people may not at first realise we have that legal authority, though we go to great lengths to ensure they do understand what’s required of them,” EPA western metropolitan acting regional manager Sam Sparks said.

“So, choosing not to provide the information we asked for has cost Kaduki nearly $10,000.”

The abandoned waste, which was used tyres tied in a bale, will now be taken to a licensed facility for disposal.
