As temperatures drop in winter, some members of the Wyndham community don’t have the luxury of a heater to keep them warm.
The team at Werribee Support and Housing is helping by collecting blankets for people sleeping rough across Wyndham.
As part of Homelessness Week in August, social worker Jackie Ceratti and her colleagues will be running a blanket drive, encouraging people to donate a blanket to make winter a little warmer for the homeless.
“Just over the past six weeks, we’ve had six homeless people staying on our site or in our carpark in swags or vans,” she said. “The demand on services has increased.”
Ms Ceratti said homelessness in Wyndham wasn’t just a problem for young people. “We have people in their 30s, 40s, 50s, even couples, sleeping rough,” she said.
The August 6 blanket drive is from 11am to 2pm at Werribee Support and Housing, 19 Duncans Road, and will feature a jumping castle, sausage sizzle, animal nursery, and more.
Entry is free … just bring a blanket.
