Join the Werribee River Association on Saturday, February 11, for a Deep Time Walk Along the Werribee River.
The organisation’s Sustainability Project Officer Jess Fairfax will lead the three hour learning experience which seeks to guide people through the 4.6 billion years of Earth’s history.
Ms Fairfax said the walks began in England, and have since spread across the world.
“It was developed with the idea of really trying to connect people with the concept of deep time, which then develops an understanding of the earth and the delicate balance that allows life to exist,” she said.
“The idea is we’ll be walking 4.6 kilometers and that represents 4.6 billion years since the earth was created, every year was a million years.
“When I first did one, what really stood out for me was the interconnectedness of events, like wow, this happened, because this happened, and this happened.
“It’s trying to help visualise that immense amount of time and along the way you’ve got these stops, called earth stations, and they’re different points in history were significant moments have happened that have built up to where we are today.”
Ms Fairfax said there will also be plenty of time for attendees reflect, chat and collaborate and talk about how we can work together to ensure that we can make things a bit better.
“We need to take care of this planet,” she said.
