The Chief Executive – Health Services at Mercy Health has denied a media report criticising waiting times at Werribee Hospital for some oncology patients.
Dr Linda Mellors said all patients referred to the hospital and to its sister hospital in Heidelberg were seen within timeframes deemed clinically appropriate.
“Any urgent gynaecological oncology cases referred to Werribee Mercy Hospital are seen by a specialist within a week,” Dr Mellors said.
“The median waiting time for patients referred to the gynaecological oncology service at Mercy Hospital is eight and a half days. We can assure the community Mercy Health is constantly working to improve specialist clinic waiting times across the health service.”
The Age reported last month 52 days was the median waiting time for gynaecological oncology patients at the two Mercy hospitals for the second quarter of 2015.
Meanwhile, Mercy Health is calling on the community to share ideas on how services can be improved.
It will host a conference in Melbourne on November 4, seeking feedback from patients, carers and patients’ families and friends. The views aired will later be compiled into a report and shared with stakeholders.
Registrations to attend the conference are being received until September 30.
