V/Line has improved its punctuality and reliability on the Geelong line.
According to the latest figures, 87.2 per cent of V/Line services arrived at their destinations on time in September, an increase of 1.2 per cent from August figures.
V/Line chief operating officer Carol-Anne Nelson attributed the better performance to a new timetable.
In August, 69 extra weekly services were added to the Geelong network to help give passengers more travel choice.
“We introduced a new timetable at the end of August, which has bedded down really well and that’s come through in the latest performance figures,” Ms Nelson said.
“Of the 2725 Geelong line services that ran for the month, 2377 arrived at their destination on time and reliability also climbed to 98.6 per cent.”
She said delays to the Geelong line over the past month were due to longer dwell times at stations.
On a few occasions, the delays were a result of unruly passengers holding up services.
“We acknowledge delays to services are frustrating for our passengers, but we work closely with authorities if an individual is unruly on board our services or at our stations,” Ms Nelson said.
“We have seen improvements in on-time running each month since May and this is something we want to continue.”
Across the V/Line network, punctuality increased to 87.1 per cent, which is the highest result since October last year.
