Vaccine milestone

Over a year has passed since Australia introduced its vaccination program and Victorians, including those in Wyndham, are still coming forward to get protected against COVID-19.

Two thirds of Victorians aged 16 and over have now had three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine- with more than 66 per cent of the age group vaccinated.

More than 90 per cent of Victorians over 70 have now had their booster.

In addition, more than 85 per cent of people aged in their 60s and more than 80 per cent of people aged in their 50s have had three doses.

To date, more than 58 per cent of children in aged between five and 11 have had at least one dose, with more than 37 per cent double vaccinated.

Health minister Martin Foley encourages all eligible Victorians to get vaccinated.

“Everyone who got themselves protected has contributed to the successful opening up of our state and the health and wellbeing of everyone in it,” Mr Foley said.

“If you haven’t yet had your third dose, now is the time ahead of winter – don’t leave it too late to get yourself the best protection.”

According to Australian Immunisation Register data, Victoria still leads other states on vaccination uptake among minority groups such as NDIS participants and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, with almost 88 per cent having had two doses.
