Pupils at Thomas Chirnside Primary will have more space for leisure now that works to the school’s playground are complete.
Principal Bev Thompson said the play area extension was added to the existing play unit, resulting in a large outdoor space that promotes “active play” for the school’s senior students.
“This new equipment includes access and exit points in various directions and are designed to allow easy progression from one activity to another,” Ms Thompson said.
The new playground includes a net bridge, a scramble net half offset balance disc walk, vertical hoop climber, double bump and wave slide, squeeze pipes underneath, turn over bars, spider web climber, monkey bars, fireman’s pole.
Ms Thompson said the pupils are enjoying the selection of play elements.
“While fun in themselves they also provide important opportunities for normal growth and development of physical and social skills,” she said.
Werribee MP Tim Pallas said local families can enjoy the “great” new facilities at the primary school.
“We’re making sure that our schools have the best facilities, our classrooms have the best teachers and that every child is given every chance to succeed,” he said.
The Labor government funded $66,120 for the project through the 2020 Minor Capital Works fund, which invested $20 million to improve learning spaces and the condition and character of schools.
