Police have arrested a 37-year-old Bellfield man following after he allegedly approached a motorist in Werribee, while clad only in underpants, and tried to drive off in her car.
Police said they believed the man approached a 45-year-old Hoppers Crossing woman in the carpark of a Princes Highway hospital about 5pm yesterday.
The man allegedly pulled the woman from her vehicle and started to drive off, before the victim jumped into the backseat and attempted to stop him.
The man drove off and crashed into multiple cars parked in the hospital carpark, while the woman, still in the back seat, contacted police.
The vehicle crashed into an embankment on Sneydes Road about 5.20pm and the woman left the vehicle and attempted to restrain the man.
Police arrived and arrested the man shortly afterwards.
The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
A police officer sustained a minor injury during the arrest and was transported to hospital for treatment.
The man is currently in custody assisting police with their inquiries.
The investigation remains ongoing and police wish to speak with anyone who may have been in the area at the time and witnessed the incident.
