Truganina’s Gills siblings have a lot more in common than just their surname.
Dahlia is three and baby brother Jorden, while they are years apart, share the same birthday on January 20.
Mum Deepa Mathew said she never planned for it to be that way.
She said that the two were going to have birthdays within a day of each other but last month Ms Mathew went into labour at Werribee Mercy with Jorden a day earlier than her due date.
“Everything was booked for a cesarean section on January 21 but because he was a big baby 4.3 kilograms and in the breech position, he was delivered on January 20 instead,” she said.
“The doctor told me, you don’t get to choose when the baby wants to come.
“We cut a cake that same day as a tradition.”
Ms Mathew said Jorden’s big sisters, six-year-old Anne Rose and Dahlia are thrilled with the new addition to their family.
“Once they reach teenagers I don’t know if they’ll be happy to share a birthday, but they are happy now.”
